Learn Mauritian Creole for Beginners Course
Description
This online course is designed to help absolute beginners learn the Mauritian Creole language/Kreol Morisien at their own pace.
It’s perfect if you’re traveling to Mauritius, whether for a short holiday or a temporary work stay, as you’ll learn enough to make your trip a little more exciting and immersive.
We encourage you to try our fun quiz on the creole language to get an idea of what to expect from this course.
We'll teach you basic phrases to help you communicate with Mauritians —from simple greetings like hello and how are you to more practical questions such as how much does this cost? As you progress through the lessons, you’ll begin to understand more of what the locals are saying. This growing confidence will make it easier to explore beyond the typical tourist spots and immerse yourself in our country's culture while forming deeper connections with people along the way.
There are quizzes throughout the course to help you practice and reinforce what you’ve learned, and we also provide aural pronunciation for all words and sentences to remove the guesswork. Correct spelling alone isn’t enough when learning a language - if you can’t pronounce the words properly, people won’t understand what you’re trying to say. But don't worry, we've got you covered (at least for creole)!

Instead of picking bits of information across several websites, apps or youtube videos (i've tried them all), save yourself time and buy this course. You will find everything you need to know in just one place. Great resource for someone like me who doesn't speak a second language, cheers.
I really enjoyed it
I'm British born with Mauritian parents and although I understand Creole a little bit, I'm just too shy when it comes to speaking. I wanted to build my confidence up and tried Duolingo but it only has a Haitian Creole course which is very different.
Kreolingo looked good but unfortunately it doesn't give you pronunciation which makes speaking hard. Simple things like "bread" which is spelt as "dipain" can be pronounced as "die-pain" for non-native speakers as you'd usually try to read it in your local language first especially when you don't know any better.
The beginner course on Clever Dodo was exactly what I needed - a structured approach to learning with guidance on how the words should sound like. The audio samples really helped me and I cannot recommend this course enough as I can now speak enough Creole to avoid paying "tourist" prices and join in conversations with my cousins back home.
A Game-Changer for My Trip to Mauritius!
I wanted to know some basic Creole for my upcoming holiday to Mauritius and decided to invest in this course, and it was honestly one of the best decisions I made for the trip!
The lessons were easy to follow, and I loved how practical the content was. It wasn't just about memorizing words, it gave me context for how to use them in real-life scenarios. I felt like I could really connect with people instead of just pointing at menus or maps.
While visiting Grand Baie, I met Vijay who runs a small excursion business around the island and we had a good chat about snorkelling in my made up Creolish language where I throw in English words when I struggle but it was one of my best moments. So thank you for this course and a great memory!!
A great value for the price
I contacted a few people for 1-1 lessons and the fees on average were 20 euros for 1 hour session which in the long run adds up to quite a bit as you'd need dozens of them. This course allowed me to learn at my own pace and at a time that's convenient to me compared to private lessons which require a weekly schedule that you have to manage.
The syllabus offers strong support both orally and visually and I found it to be rich in terms of provided knowledge.
Well done to the team and thank you!
Fantastic quizzes that reinforce learning
I like how the quizzes reinforce what you are learning in every lesson. Sometimes the questions are in Creole with answers in English, other times the questions in English and answers in Creole (through voice clips) and that helps me memorise the meaning of words as I progress.
The lessons have been designed with beginners in mind and the concepts are slowly introduced to avoid overwhelming you with too much information at once.
